Graduation Ceremonies in Scotland are no different to any other Ceremony in the UK however Graduation Gowns do have to be representative of the Scottish Qualifications Authority. (SQA)
The SQA was formed in 1997 by a merger of the Scottish Examination Board (SEB) and the Scottish Vocational Education Council which are used for HND and HNCs in Scotland. The SQA was formed in 1997 by a merger of the Scottish Examination Board (SEB) and the Scottish Vocational Education Council (SCOTVEC).
SCOTVEC was the result of the union of the Scottish Business Education Council (SCOTBEC) and the Scottish Technician Education Council (SCOTEC) in 1985. Between 1997 and 2000,SCOTVEC and SEB systems ran in parallel while a unified system was developed.

Higher National Diploma and Professional Development Award
Gown: of the basic BA pattern, in black.
Hood: of the Leeds simple shape, in dark blue, lined with white silk; the SQA arms are embroidered on the turnout once on each side, so as to sit just in front of the shoulder.
Higher National Certificate
Gown: of the basic BA pattern, in black.
Hood: of the Leeds simple shape, in dark blue, lined with gold silk; the SQA arms are embroidered on the turnout once on each side, so as to sit just in front of the shoulder.
SCOTVEC, SCOTEC and SCOTBEC
It was a known fact that SCOTVEC used it’s own robes between 1985 and 2000. These were used for all qualifications, regardless of status.
Gown: of the basic bachelor’s pattern in black.
Hood: of the Leeds simple shape, in dark blue, lined white, and the turnout covered with 3” of scarlet silk embroidered with the SCOTVEC arms.
It is still not clear if SCOTEC and SCOTBEC used any academic dress.
