What’s in?

Bold colours

This year’s graduation fashion sees bold colours with fiery reds and electric blues being popular. Pattern-wise, florals and abstract prints are in. As most graduation gowns are black, going bold creates a big contrast to your gown.

Tip:

If opting for bold colours, keep accessories to a minimum and let the colour do the talking!

Sustainable fashion

Sustainable fashion is a big graduation trend this year. With materials like linen or recycled polyester being found frequently on the high street.

If you want to save costs, why not wear something you already own?

Another option to consider is hiring your graduation outfit. There are plenty of apps that rent out designer dresses and suits, meaning you can wear something you wouldn’t necessarily buy.

Tip:

If you’re handy with a sewing machine, you could opt for upcycling something you already own, creating a new and unique piece you can cherish forever.

Metallics

Silver, Gold and rose gold are all trending this year. This year’s best dress style for graduation is a metallic satin slip dress, which can easily be worn for the ceremony and celebrations after.

You could even opt for something with a little bit of sparkle to really help you stand out.

Relaxed tailoring

The top graduation style  this year is relaxed tailoring.  Oversized blazers and shirts are in, with even wide-legged trousers being a big trend this year.

Tip: Your graduation outfit should still be fairly formal, but if suits aren’t your thing, you could wear a smart polo-style shirt with linen tailored trousers.

What’s out?

Buying and wearing once

Buying expensive outfits you only wear once is out. With a higher emphasis on sustainability, more and more people are opting to hire graduation outfits or to wear something they already own.

Tip: If you are buying something new, try to purchase something you could wear to another event.

Non-Eco-Friendly materials

Cheap polyester gowns with materials that can’t be recycled are out. Recycled materials are at the forefront of today’s graduation fashion. At Evess, our Bachelor Graduation gowns are manufactured from EnviroThread, recycled plastic thread.

Impractical outfits

Very short or very long dresses are out. During graduation, you have to walk across the stage to collect your degree scroll, so you’ll want to make sure that you can move easily in your outfit. Wearing something very short may mean you’re worrying about pulling it down, or if it’s too long, you may worry about tripping.

Tip: You’ll be doing lots of standing and walking around all day, so you’ll want to make sure that your shoe choice is practical. If opting for heels, wear something with a lower blocked heel. Make sure shoes don’t slip off or that they aren’t too tight.
