Academic dress unites us with universities around the world, those who share our heritage, our history and moreover, serves as a reminder that we are heirs to a great tradition. In fact, its legacy is so strong that not a single British university has ever decided against the custom.
University students and academics may well be accustomed to seeing events where academic dress is being worn. But, more often than not, the variety of dress, some whose colours linger long on the retina, blurs their significance. With a considerable dearth of information on the British academic dress this blog attempts to clear up the mysteries surrounding the colourful affairs we have come to expect from graduation.
